Pencillin allergy de-labelling toolkit launched
SAPG has launched a new toolkit of resources to support the removal of unverified penicillin allergy labels from patients deemed at low risk of having a true allergy.
The toolkit, which was developed for use by clinical teams, includes information for patients and will help to ensure patients with infections receive the best treatment while reducing the risk of antimicrobial resistance.
The de-labelling process has been developed and piloted to provide a robust and safe approach to assess risk at individual patient level. The toolkit includes details of how to carry out an oral challenge test and communicate the result. This will support Antimicrobial Management Teams to work with clinical teams in a variety of wards and departments to implement penicillin allergy de-labelling.
