SAPG work on carbapenem published

Our work on optimising the use of carbapenem through a national quality improvement programme has been in published in the Journal of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy.

Concern about the increasing use of carbapenem and piperacillin/tazobactam use led SAPG to develop national guidance on optimal use of these agents, and to implement a quality improvement programme to assess the impact of guidance on practice. The published paper looks at how this guidance was implemented by health boards and investigates clinicians' views and behaviours about prescribing carbapenems and alternative agents.
