Commonwealth Partnerships for Antimicrobial Stewardship Forum (CwPAMS)

The Commonwealth Partnerships for Antimicrobial Stewardship (CwPAMS) forum is a Fleming funded collaborative scheme with focus on supporting antimicrobial resistance (AMR) national action plans in countries across Africa.

In 2019, SAPG, in partnership with two hospitals in Ghana, Keta Municipal hospital and Ghana Police Hospital, secured funding within CwPAMS to deliver on the first phase of their project. The aim of the project was to establish antimicrobial stewardship programmes, improve infection prevention and control practice, and build capacity and expertise in clinical pharmacy to Ghana.

Peer reviewed publications arising from this collaboration can be accessed online.

In 2023, SAPG, in partnership with 6 hospitals in Ghana, were successful in a bid to extend and expand the programme across this network of hospitals. These are Cape Coast Teaching Hospital, Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, Tema General Hospital, University of Ghana Medical Centre, as well as Keta Municipal hospital and Ghana Police Hospital. The focus of this next phase of partnership is to establish a regional antimicrobial stewardship collaborative with focus on pneumonia treatment and surgical prophylaxis.
