EUCAST changes

The European Committee on Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing (EUCAST) has changed the reporting of susceptibility to antimicrobials.

The new updated definitions are S is susceptible, I is increased exposure i.e. increased dose required, and R is resistant. To support the implementation of these recommendations the Scottish Antimicrobial Prescribing Group (SAPG) and the Scottish Microbiology and Virology Network (SMVN) have developed two advice documents; one describes the increased dosage requirements for antibiotics where susceptibility has been categorised as ‘I’ (increased exposure) and the other provides a position statement on the use of aminoglycosides in Scottish practice.
