Quality improvement

SAPG provides leadership and support for NHS boards in quality improvement in antimicrobial stewardship and infection management with the aim of ‘no avoidable injury or harm to people from the healthcare they receive’ and ‘the most appropriate treatments, interventions, support and services’.

Current quality improvement areas are empirical prescribing and surgical prophylaxis (supporting indicators for the Clostridium difficile infection HEAT target) and community acquired pneumonia.

Our quality improvement work is split into two workstreams, primary care, which focuses on supporting health and social care staff in community settings and hospital prescribing, which focuses on supporting hospital clinicians.
